ESCALATION OF CRIMINAL OFFENSES AND ASSAULTS IN SOCIETY! BY SADIQ UMAR ABDULLAHI!

Saturday, 17 September 2016

There has been some unfortunate recent events that have been rapidly increasing in the north western part of the country, here referred to as "KADUNA STATE, KATSINA STATE AND SEVERAL OTHER STATES AND THE ENTIRE COUNTRY TO A CERTAIN EXTENT”, have all been experiencing similar criminal events in these difficult times that the country is going through. People are no longer safe to walk the streets without the fear of being attack and robbed of their personal belongings.

However, the general public also have themselves to blame because of the manner in which they carry out their daily activities without due diligence and vigilance, waiting for the government to do everything for them, which in all fairness should be a collective effort that will encourage correspondence, collaboration and co-operation with security forces that are there to serve the State government, and also happens to be the primary objective of the security agencies. There are several series of such criminal activities that have occurred and led to the brutal attacks of the general public, whereby mobile phones, money and other personal belongings have been stolen on the streets. This illegal incidents has happened to uncountable people, both from the lower and upper class in society, but records show that the lower class have registered a higher number of people that have fallen victim to such criminal acts.

The most recent person that has fallen victim to such incident, include the son of the late "GENERAL HASSAN USMAN KATSINA', also referred to as (THE LATE CHIROMAN KATSINA), THE SECOND AND ONLY PERSON TO HOLD THE STATUS OF "PREMIER OF NORTHERN NIGERIA AFTER THE LATE SIR AHMADU BELLO, (SARDAUNAN SOKOTO). May their souls rest in perfect peace. Amin.

The late General Hassan Usman Katsina is one of the most respected figures in the northern part of Nigeria and his name still remains in the history books of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as one of the nation's heroes. The victim of the unfortunate incident is a young civil servant here, referred to as "YUSUF HASSAN USMAN KATSINA”, who came home to Kaduna for the Eid Festivities and was attacked in front of the family residence. He is presently admitted in hospital and has undergone a surgical procedure that was successful.

Another victim among others was a teenager who also happens to be the son of a highly respected elder statesman, here referred to as "ALHAJI BELLO SAFANA". A third victim, here referred to "ABUBAKAR YAHUZA", was brutally murdered in Kawo, which is an area located in the northern part of Kaduna, who happens to be from the lower class in society. There are similar incidents that have been occurring and rapidly increasing in the whole country and Kaduna State in particular can be used as a reference or case study for almost a year, due to lawlessness, moral hazard, and drug abuse, idleness of youths in society and most importantly, poverty and hunger.

Although the government of Kaduna State, with "GOVERNOR NASIR EL-RUFA'I", at the helm of affairs is doing an excellent job in trying to reduce the level of crime rate by attempting to impede the increasing number of idleness and moral hazards especially, with regard to the youths, by providing several schemes of employment opportunities. It is imperative and there is a need to focus on small and petty crime that has now taken an unexpected drastic turn from the children of the poor to the ones considered in society as "ELITES”, which starts from the upper class, all the way to the lower level of masses that are living in poverty.

Unfortunately, the media doesn't carry such incidents because they are considered as irrelevant and not worthy of publication and will not sell or attract attention even if they get published. It will be no surprise if the pattern and situation escalates and continue to occur unless the government and security agencies fully concentrate on initiating tactical strategies and double their efforts that will help in reducing the rise of small scale criminal activities as opposed to only capital offenses. A government like the present administration should focus and simultaneously tackle both their war against corruption and the little crimes that are rapidly increasing due to the economic recession that is devastating all sectors in different parts of the country.

May God almighty continue to bless, guide and protect us with his infinite mercy and wisdom. Amin.
